How To Keep Your Skin Happy Through The Summer

As it is well into the summer season and we’re all making the most of the sun, getting a tan and some Vitamin D; we still have to protect our skin from excessive sun damage. Here are some tips to help you prepare and protect your skin from the sun.

Water: 

This tip might seem like a no brainer, but it is super essential to know. Drinking plenty of water is really important throughout summer, not just for internal health but for the health and appearance of the skin. Try to drink at least 8 glasses of H2O throughout the day. Although if you feel like you’re forgetful or don’t get thirsty that often, set hourly reminders to make sure you stay hydrated.

Protection:

This tip, too, is a no brainer. Please keep your skin protected from the sun by using sun blocks or sunscreen - to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. When you don’t use a form of sun protection, an immediate reaction you get is sun burn. However, sun damage can occur over a lifetime and can lead to skin cancer. So it’s important to use sun protection of SPF 30 or higher.

After Sun:

Along with sun protection, it’s important to look after the skin after you’ve been out in the sun. If you would like a lovely tan, you need to keep your skin moisturised and hydrated as your tan will last longer. We also recommend using our Nzuri Chamrhi cleanser and Merakhi Face Oil on a night to help repair the skin after a long day in the sun. Nzuri Chamrhi can help to remove any extra grease and oil from the skin, giving it a deep clean! Exfoliation:

To keep your face and body looking smooth, radiant and in tip top condition - exfoliation is a must. Try to exfoliate once a week, or twice if your skin can handle it. The Difference Between Natural & Organic

As organic skincare is gaining popularity in the market, it’s no wonder that many health and beauty brands are releasing natural skincare products.

However, this can lead to a bit of confusion as customers can pick up a product, which has the prominent keyword ‘natural’ on it, and assume that this product is a completely organic product. This is a cause for concern as brands may want to market their products as natural, for more sales, but this isn’t the case. 

There are a lot of products that are marketed as natural and ‘skin loving’, yet still contain harsh ingredients like Sodium Laureth Sulphate and parabens - which are not natural at all. Even though these products may have key ingredients in them like Organic Tea Tree Oil, which are in bold letters to bring in consumers, when you see the ingredients at the back, there will be a full list of non-organic ingredients.

Instead of looking for a product that is ‘natural’, choose one that is certified organic.

To fully determine whether a skincare product is purely organic, look for these phrases:

• SLS Free - Sodium Laureth Sulphate, or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, is a harsh skin irritant that is often found in cash was, exfoliators and even garage floor cleaners. Yes, that’s right, garage floor cleaner. This ingredient is a foaming agent which can cause skin irritation and dry skin. When you opt for an organic skincare product, there will be no SLS.
• Paraben Free - Parabens, like SLS, are one also to look out for. Whilst some companies say that parabens are necessary as they help to keep skincare na makeup lasting for a long time, they are also carcinogenic - meaning they have the potential to cause cancer. Organic skincare products will definitely not have parabens in them.
• Cold pressed - This is a term in regards to oils in skincare. There are many oils on the market that claim to help with a number of issues including hair loss, dehydrated skin and acne. However, some of these oils have been filtered and bleached, to make them look or smell a certain way. In order to make sure that you’re using the real deal, look at the details of the product for ‘made with cold-pressed oils’. Cold pressed oils have not been filtered or tampered with; and retain all of their nutritional value making them amazing for the skin. 
• Organic - Opt for a product that is organic, than 'natural' - as you'll definitely be getting whats written on the front of the product, without any nasty ingredients.
• Cruelty free - This can either be in the form of a statement on the product, or a small bunny rabbit logo. Cruelty free products are becoming more popular as consumers are able to use amazing products knowing that no animals were harmed or tested on during the making of the product. 

These are a few things to look out for when opting for organic skincare that will make you look and feel amazing. Does Oil Get Rid Of Acne?

One of our most frequently asked questions and concerns is: “Do your products work on acne prone skin, and can this get rid of my acne?”. The answer is YES. Both our Nzuri Chamrhi cleanser and Merakhi face oil are amazing for sensitive, acne prone skin.

Acne can be caused by excess sebum that is trapped beneath the surface of the skin, or simply over active sebum production. When using a lot of over the counter acne creams and lotions, these products tend to dry out the skin as it works to dry out any existing spots and acne. HOWEVER, these creams can do more damage to the skin as it can become too dry. Naturally, the skin’s way of coping with this is to produce more sebum - which can cause more acne and so it becomes a cycle.

When the skin feels dry, it will start producing sebum - which is a natural process - to compensate for any dryness on the skin. So it’s very important to use products which will keep the skin moisturised and also help heal the skin.

Using a face oil on the skin can help to reduce excess sebum production (when the skin produces excess oil due to being dry), clean trapped dirt and help moisturise the skin. It works to reduce the sebum production as the skin can feel that it is properly moisturised and clean - and therefore doesn’t feel like it needs to produce more oil.

After the success of launching our HAIRBEAST and Merakhi oils, a facial cleanser was the next step and an absolute must to create. Nzuri Chamrhi is a gentle cleansing oil that not only cleans the skin, but gives an extra glow to the face while reducing redness and enhancing the skin texture. It works amazingly well with our Merakhi face oil!

Nzuri Chamrhi means ‘Beautiful Skin’. We wanted to bring in both of our African and Indian backgrounds to create a name that perfectly describes our product. 

Nzuri Chamrhi is a fabulous cleansing oil which helps with dark circles, pigmentation, acne, irritated skin, dull skin and much more. We wanted to formulate a cleanser which works with all skin types, from dry to oils, young to mature skin; to improve the overall appearance and texture of the skin.

All About Merakhi

Today’s blog post is all about our fabulous face oil, Merakhi! Merakhi is a completely organic and natural face oil that helps the skin in many ways. 

If you’re dealing with acne, dark circles, pigmentation, dull skin and wrinkles - then Merakhi will help combat these skin issues and give you a more glowing and youthful appearance. 

Our Merakhi face oil came about when Rajinder - co-founder of Bonita Biaan - had tried and tested all kinds of acne treatments and remedies, but hadn’t found anything that controlled and prevented her breakouts. Husband, Ranvir, had trialled and tested a blend of skin loving natural oils to help heal Rajinder’s skin, to help heal her acne breakouts and blemishes. This blend of natural oils worked amazingly well, and Merakhi was created.

Merkahi is a Greek word, which means ‘to put love into something’ - and we love to put all our love into our products.

WHAT IS MERAKHI MADE FROM:

Two of the key ingredients in Merakhi are Neem and Pomegranate oils, along with a blend of other skin loving oils. These two oils in particular are very beneficial for the skin. Neem oil originates from India, which is well known for healing the skin. Pomegranate oil contains Vitamin K and Omega 5; it helps to regenerate skin cells and promotes blood flow to the surface. Our perfect blend helps to really improve the skin’s texture and tone. 

Merkahi is suitable for normal-oily skin types, including sensitive skin and mature skin. However, we do not recommend Merakhi for dry skin. Our Merakhi oil is ideal for ages 17 upwards.

All About HAIRBEAST

Today’s blog post is all about our best selling hair oil, HAIRBEAST. In the last blog post, we touched on what makes out oils so special, but here’s an in-depth explanation on why our fabulous hair oil is a miracle worker.

HAIRBEAST can be used on all hair colours and types - including dyed hair - except Afro hair.

HAIRBEAST contains castor oil as it’s base, but it is blended with five other amazing oils including Neem. Neem is a traditional oil that originated in India, which helps to heal and clean pores to help new hairs to grow. Blackseed oil is also added to this organic oil blend, which helps to nourish the scalp, strengthen and condition the hair. 

HOW TO USE HAIRBEAST:

Before pouring the oil, give HAIRBEAST a good shake. Apply 12-16 drops of HAIRBEAST into your hands, and massage your scalp for a few minutes - don’t forget to apply the oil to the rest of your hair for a deep conditioning effect. Keep the oil in for at least two hours, or overnight for best results and wash out with shampoo. You can follow up with conditioner if desired.

We recommend using HAIRBEAST three to four times a week for best results, but this depends on your own preference. 

We at Bonita Biaan are all about Ayurveda, and keeping our products as natural as they can be. We have made sure to formulate our products using the highest quality and purest of oils, using only cold pressed and organic oils. All of our oils have been sourced from vegan and cruelty free backgrounds. 

As our oils are 100% natural and pure, they have quite an earthy scent - as opposed to a sweet fragrance like other oils on the market. The reason for this is that we have kept our oils as pure as they can be, without any sort of bleaching or refining - which makes for an earthy scent! 

Also, we do not have any nut oils in our products either, making them suitable for those with nut allergies.

A Formal Introduction

We have been absent from our blog for a hot minute, but we are back to bring you lovely readers some weekly fresh content, straight from the Bonita Biaan HQ. As our previous posts consisted of mostly makeup, we are still going to post beauty related content alongside health related posts too. 

For those of you who are new to our website - Bonita Biaan - here’s a small breakdown. We are a UK based beauty company specialising in carefully formulated face and hair oils to help better skin and hair troubles. Due to our own personal skincare issues and hearing of friends and family beauty problems, we decided to create our own blend of natural products, which have proven to give phenomenal results! 

We have formulated all of our products using 100% natural, cold pressed oils that haven’t been refined or bleached - as we believe in completely natural skincare. Our products are cruelty free and vegan.

Our first two products, HAIRBEAST and Merakhi, hit the market mid 2016 and have become a huge hit with customers across the globe.

HAIRBEAST has been a phenomenal hit, as customers have routinely tried the oils and come back to tell us how much their hair has grown, started to grow hair thicker hair and how bald patches are starting to sprout new hairs. One of our most amazing testimonials included a lady who had lost patches of her hair due to Androgenic Alopecia. Despite trying many serums and ointments from the doctors to help grow her hair back, nothing seemed to work for her. She decided to try HAIRBEAST within our market research period, and after 14 years of being unsuccessful, her hair started to grow back. We know that our oils are truly ‘magic in a bottle’ and after hearing success stories like these, it further proves how well our products work!

Merakhi, too, has also been a hugely successful as we have seen how it works to help fade acne scars, dark spots and pigmentation - yet also making the skin look and feel amazing. Our Merkahi oil is recommended for normal to oily skin and works amazingly on sensitive skin too! People can be scared of using an oil on already oily skin, but Merakhi helps to control sebum while maintaining adequate moisture for the face. 

After the success of HAIRBEAST and Merakhi, we decided to launch our very own cleansing oil - Nzuri Chamrhi. 

Nzuri Chamrhi was created as a complimentary product with Merkahi, as cleansing and moisturising are very important skin care steps. We formulated Nzuri Chamrhi as a natural and very gentle cleansing oil for all skin types, to be used once or twice a day - depending on your preference. As all of our products go through weeks of testing in our own market research group, we have seen huge differences in complexions. Nzuri Chamrhi works by removing dirt and excess oil from the skin, adding moisture and reviving complexions to make them brighter and glowing.
