One of our most frequently asked questions is: “When are you going to bring out a face oil for dry skin?”

As we have not yet released a face oil for dry skin, as Merakhi is designed for oily to normal types, we have a super handy trick that involves our Nzuri Chamrhi cleanser.

Nzuri Chamrhi is our fabulous cleansing oil which helps with dark circles, pigmentation, acne, irritated skin, dull skin and so much more. It works with all skin types, from dry to oily, young to mature skin - to improve the overall appearance and texture of the skin. 

You’re probably wondering what Nzuri Chamrhi has to do with moisturising the skin, as it is a cleanser. Well, since it has moisturising properties in it as it helps to balance out the skin as well as to remove excess oil and add in any necessary moisture - it can be used after cleansing to moisturise dry skin.

How To Use Nzuri Chamrhi:

Before using Nzuri Chamrhi, we recommend giving the bottle a shake. Before washing your face, pour out a small amount of the oil and rub your hands together to warm up the oil. Then massage the oil directly on to your skin for 2-3 minutes, making sure to get the neck too. Using a hot cloth, remove the cleansing oil using gentle wipes. 

After removing the excess oil, rinse away and splash your face with cold water to close the pores. Then, taking a small amount of Nzuri Chamrhi, pat the oil into your skin and slowly massage the skin - as you would with a regular moisturiser.

After reading this, you’re probably wondering how could you use a cleanser as a moisturiser, as you wouldn’t be able to do this with regular store bought products. 

However, the ingredients in Nzuri Chamrhi are very gentle on the skin and all work together to heal and improve the quality of the skin - it is no wonder that it works to moisturise too. Nzuri Chamrhi contains a fabulous blend of miraculous oils including Acai Berry oil, Chia Seed oil and Pomegranate oil. Our Summer Glow HACK

Yes, the days are now getting shorter and the temperature is slowly dropping - however it is still summer and people are still going for summer vacays! After all, why not make the most out of this season?! 

To those of you who are still venturing out to tropical destinations, we have a lovely little beauty hack for you to use while you’re chilling and partying it up. But, this trick is also great for those who want to look glowy and amazing for a night out on the town!

When it comes to looking glowing, the base is just as important as the makeup. Nzuri Chamrhi is an oil cleanser to be used with a hot cloth. It helps to give the skin a deep clean, exfoliate and remove any dead skin and dirt - without stripping the skin’s natural moisture. Follow up with the Merakhi face oil after closing the pores with a splash of cold water, to prep the skin for makeup and our glow secret!

Once you have applied all of your makeup - minus the highlight - you are ready for our secret highlight hack!

Apply a drop of Merakhi face oil onto the back of your hand, take your finger and pat a small amount of the oil onto the high points of your face that you would like to highlight. For example the tops of your cheekbones, brow bone, cupids bow and bridge of the nose. Make sure to use a small amount of oil and really tap it into the skin. 

Then, taking your favourite powdered highlight, dust it onto the areas you have just tapped on the Merakhi and see how amazing it looks.

The Merakhi face oil acts like a highlight primer; your highlight looks more intense and brighter but you are able to blend the highlight using your foundation brush or sponge. 

You can also use this amazing trick on the tops of your shoulders and collar bone to add a super glowy highlight to your body if you’re wearing a lovely dress or a fancy blouse.

How To Keep Your Skin Happy Through The Summer

As it is well into the summer season and we’re all making the most of the sun, getting a tan and some Vitamin D; we still have to protect our skin from excessive sun damage. Here are some tips to help you prepare and protect your skin from the sun.

Water: 

This tip might seem like a no brainer, but it is super essential to know. Drinking plenty of water is really important throughout summer, not just for internal health but for the health and appearance of the skin. Try to drink at least 8 glasses of H2O throughout the day. Although if you feel like you’re forgetful or don’t get thirsty that often, set hourly reminders to make sure you stay hydrated.

Protection:

This tip, too, is a no brainer. Please keep your skin protected from the sun by using sun blocks or sunscreen - to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. When you don’t use a form of sun protection, an immediate reaction you get is sun burn. However, sun damage can occur over a lifetime and can lead to skin cancer. So it’s important to use sun protection of SPF 30 or higher.

After Sun:

Along with sun protection, it’s important to look after the skin after you’ve been out in the sun. If you would like a lovely tan, you need to keep your skin moisturised and hydrated as your tan will last longer. We also recommend using our Nzuri Chamrhi cleanser and Merakhi Face Oil on a night to help repair the skin after a long day in the sun. Nzuri Chamrhi can help to remove any extra grease and oil from the skin, giving it a deep clean! Exfoliation:

To keep your face and body looking smooth, radiant and in tip top condition - exfoliation is a must. Try to exfoliate once a week, or twice if your skin can handle it. Exfoliation helps to get rid of dead skin cells, remove trapped dirt and prevent breakouts. The Difference Between Natural & Organic

As organic skincare is gaining popularity in the market, it’s no wonder that many health and beauty brands are releasing natural skincare products.

However, this can lead to a bit of confusion as customers can pick up a product, which has the prominent keyword ‘natural’ on it, and assume that this product is a completely organic product. This is a cause for concern as brands may want to market their products as natural, for more sales, but this isn’t the case. 

There are a lot of products that are marketed as natural and ‘skin loving’, yet still contain harsh ingredients like Sodium Laureth Sulphate and parabens - which are not natural at all. Even though these products may have key ingredients in them like Organic Tea Tree Oil, which are in bold letters to bring in consumers, when you see the ingredients at the back, there will be a full list of non-organic ingredients.

Instead of looking for a product that is ‘natural’, choose one that is certified organic.

To fully determine whether a skincare product is purely organic, look for these phrases:

• SLS Free - Sodium Laureth Sulphate, or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, is a harsh skin irritant that is often found in cash was, exfoliators and even garage floor cleaners. Yes, that’s right, garage floor cleaner. This ingredient is a foaming agent which can cause skin irritation and dry skin. When you opt for an organic skincare product, there will be no SLS.
• Paraben Free - Parabens, like SLS, are one also to look out for. Whilst some companies say that parabens are necessary as they help to keep skincare na makeup lasting for a long time, they are also carcinogenic - meaning they have the potential to cause cancer. Organic skincare products will definitely not have parabens in them.
• Cold pressed - This is a term in regards to oils in skincare. There are many oils on the market that claim to help with a number of issues including hair loss, dehydrated skin and acne. However, some of these oils have been filtered and bleached, to make them look or smell a certain way. In order to make sure that you’re using the real deal, look at the details of the product for ‘made with cold-pressed oils’. Cold pressed oils have not been filtered or tampered with; and retain all of their nutritional value making them amazing for the skin. 
• Organic - Opt for a product that is organic, than 'natural' - as you'll definitely be getting whats written on the front of the product, without any nasty ingredients.
• Cruelty free - This can either be in the form of a statement on the product, or a small bunny rabbit logo. Cruelty free products are becoming more popular as consumers are able to use amazing products knowing that no animals were harmed or tested on during the making of the product.

How To Get Clear Skin By Switching Your Existing Skincare To Oils

Experiencing acne, blemishes, blackheads or oily skin can be a nightmare to deal with, especially if it happens very often. Did you know, acne affects at least 85% of the population at some time during their lives? 

Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterised by blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, cysts; they can occur on the face, chest, neck, back, shoulders and upper arms.

While getting spots through the teenage years seems very common as it’s usually due to hormones, many people still get breakouts even after and into the adult years. It can affect a persons’ confidence and self esteem, especially since the media portrays completely flawless skin as beautiful. 

It’s easy to go to the doctors or a dermatologist and ask them for a quick solution to get rid of acne, and they most likely will give some sort of medication or give you a cream or skincare product to put on.

The trouble with this is that:

1. Medications MIGHT work, but it’s not really looking at the cause of acne breakouts - as there is usually a reason why you get a certain pimple and where.
2. A lot of these skincare products or acne gels contain harsh ingredients that completely strip the skin of it’s natural moisture, creating a complete imbalance - making the skin either incredibly dry, or clearing the skin a little but after a while, the acne comes back.

One thing to remember is that acne can be caused by a number of things. It can be your skincare routine; perhaps a product you are using, not enough moisture on the skin, or you are washing it a little too often. Or it can be something you are eating. Did you know, dairy products are high contributors to acne breakouts? If you find that your skin is very oily or you’re constantly getting breakouts, stop the dairy intake for two weeks and you will see an improvement.

If you’re finding that your diet is not to blame - as you’re eating healthy foods and being responsible with what you’re putting in your body - it could be that there needs to be some small adjustments made to your skincare.

One reason why acne gels and skincare products from the doctors don’t work - either they don’t work or they do work for a small time, but the acne comes back - is because they are designed to completely dry out the skin, rather than regulate the skin. What I mean by regulating the skin, is that the skin has a natural pH level - and it’s more on the acidic side. A lot of skincare products, especially acne gels (the benzoyl peroxide, or simply -oxide ones) are high in alkaline. This creates an imbalance as the higher alkaline in a product, the more your skin’s natural acidity level will be broken down, making it more prone to acne breakouts and oily skin. When you use products that are more pH neutral or are slightly on the acid side, you’ll find that you will get less breakouts, less redness and your skin will be less oily. 

Our two products, Merakhi face oil and Nzuri Chamrhi cleanser, are both quite acidic-neutral in their pH levels (between 5-6) - making them gentle to use on their skin and really beneficial for those who experience acne, redness and oily skin. Using both of these products combined can help to regulate your skin and correct the acidity levels.

A lot of people think using an oil on their skin - either as a moisturiser or oil cleansing - will block their pores or make their skin more oily, simply because it is an oil. But using an oil in either of these ways will help to to moisturise the skin enough so that their skin’s oil production level will decrease, making the skin less oily and therefore reducing acne breakouts. It just helps to regulate the sebum production. 

There are oils to be mindful of as they do clog the skin - for example coconut oil and olive oil. 

The organic and natural oil blends of both Merakhi and Nzuri Chamrhi are non-comedogenic (meaning they won’t block your pores) and are designed to suit those with acne prone skin, oily skin, dull skin - to help heal and soothe the skin. 

Merakhi face oil is a brilliant skin loving moisturiser as it contains oils like Pomegranate Oil and Neem Oil - which are excellent for healing acne breakouts and delivers nutrients and fatty acids to the skin.

Nzuri Chamrhi is a fabulous oil cleanser that is used to remove makeup (if you’re wearing it before washing your face) or just to clean the bare face. This would be used instead of a regular face wash (which can contain irritating and acne provoking ingredients), and to be used with a hot cloth to remove the oil. The Benefits Of Hemp Seed Oil In Merakhi

Hemp Seed Oil is one of the fabulous oils in our Merakhi Face Oil. As a cold pressed organic oil it carries many benefits to help people internally and externally. 

Hemp Seeds carry a lot of nutritional value as they are a great source of protein and are rich in both two essential fatty acids - linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linoleic acid (omega-3). With these two combined, Hemp Seed Oil is an incredible oil that can improve the skin in so many ways.

1. One reason why some people are intimidated by using an oil on their skin is because they think it’s going to make their skin even more oily and clod their pores. However, Hemp Seed Oil has a comedogenic rating of 0, meaning that is does not clog pores at all. This makes it a great moisturiser for both oily and acne prone skin types as it’s fatty acid content helps create a protective barrier over the skin to help prevent any moisture loss.

Today’s blog post is all about our most recent product, our one and only cleansing oil Nzuri Chamrhi.

After the success of launching our HAIRBEAST and Merakhi oils, a facial cleanser was the next step and an absolute must to create. Nzuri Chamrhi is a gentle cleansing oil that not only cleans the skin, but gives an extra glow to the face while reducing redness and enhancing the skin texture. It works amazingly well with our Merakhi face oil!

Nzuri Chamrhi means ‘Beautiful Skin’. We wanted to bring in both of our African and Indian backgrounds to create a name that perfectly describes our product.
